Iran
As Iran isn’t the destination for mass tourism (yet), it’s the perfect holiday destination for those who seek out authentic experiences when abroad. We’ve listed a few of its amazing highlights below, though these are of course just the tip of the iceberg!
Yazd
This small city in the middle of the Iranian desert has plenty to offer any traveller. Its city centre is over 5000 years old, making it one of the oldest intact city centres on earth, so it definitely deserves its status as a UNESCO World Heritage City. Walk along its beautiful wooden front doors, through small streets and along simple hidden squares. Yazd is also the home of the tallest wind tower in Iran as well as the Amir Chakhmaq Complex, shown in one of the pictures below.
Isfahan
Isfahan is situated about 5 hours west of Yazd and offers beautiful markets, small cafes and of course its famous Naghsh-e Jahan Square, which is one of the largest squares in the world. Imam Mosque and Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque are also definitely worth a visit. And of course your trip wouldn’t be complete without seeing the old city bazaar.
Kandovan
While Iran has beautiful cities that will likely impress any traveller, it also has some unique archeological and natural features. Kandovan is a small village in the north of the country, close to Tabriz and Lake Urmia, and is basically a museum in of itself. Its unique architecture is simply stunning, spanning across more than 800 years.
Chahkooh
Chahkooh is an impressive landmark found on the island Qeshm in the Persian Gulf, very close to the southern coast of Iran and consists of two canyons. They’re about 100 meters tall and full of niches, strange shapes and holes. walk through one of the canyons and see its fascinating lack of plant life and foreign-looking formations. It’s also possible to climb to the point where the two meet and you can even take a sip of water from a traditional ‘Chah’, a well that’s been used by the locals for centuries.
